Haryana Chief Secretary Mrs. Keshni Anand Arora has described water as a precious gift of nature and urged for its conservation on priority basis. She said that water is the only source to secure the life of every living being.

  • Chandigarh, October 10- Haryana Chief Secretary Mrs. Keshni Anand Arora has described water as a precious gift of nature and urged for its conservation on priority basis. She said that water is the only source to secure the life of every living being. 
  • Mrs. Arora was speaking at a one-day workshop organized on the Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting under Jal Shakti Abhiyan in Haryana organized by the Science and Technology Department, here today.
  • She said that every person should understand the importance of water and rainwater harvesting and efforts for their conservation should be done on priority basis.
  • She said that 'Water Project Management Advisory Group' should be formed to raise the water level in the State and strengthen water conservation. This group should prepare a special and basic action plan on water conservation so that water storage and conservation in the State can be strengthened.
  • The Chief Secretary said that under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, several action plans have been started in the State.   She further said that in Haryana, about 85 percent of the available water is utilized in irrigation.  
  •         She said that the blocks of districts including Mahendragarh, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Gurugaon, Karnal, and Rewari have witnessed the large scale exploitation of under groundwater, which has affected many areas of the State.  Therefore, people should emphasize on micro irrigation system and water re-cycling system.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Padma Shri awardee for outstanding work in the field of water conservation, Mr.  Anil Joshi said that there is a need to understand the science of nature.  He said that people have to come forward to conserve water, for which campaigns should be launched.
  • Dr. Ashok Khemka, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, greeted all the participants and stressed upon the importance of water. In the workshop, Principal Secretary Panchayats Mr. Sudhir Rajpal, experts namely Dr. Anoop Nagar, Ramji Jayamal, Dr. Sushil Kamra, Sumant Kumar, and Professor R. K. Johar also expressed their views.
  •  Among those present on this occasion,  included Additional Chief Secretary  Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Mr. Sunil Gulati, Additional Chief Secretary Mining and Geology Mr. P. K Das,  Additional Chief Secretary Public Works (Building and Roads)  Mr. Alok Nigam, Additional Chief Secretary Environment and Climate Change Mrs Dheera Khandelwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Health Engineering Mr. Rajeev Arora, Principal Secretary, Irrigation Department Mr. Anurag Rastogi, Director General Science and Technology Mr. Praveen Kumar and senior officers of various departments.
