  • Chandigarh, October 16 – As per the notification of the Election Commission of India regarding the General Assembly Elections- 2019 in Haryana, scheduled on October 21, 2019, there shall be restrictions on conduct of any exit poll and publication and dissemination of result of such exit poll in electronic and print media after the announcement of elections till 6.30 pm on October, 21, 2019.
  • Sharing more information in this regard, Haryana's Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Inder Jeet said that on October 21, 2019, Haryana will go for poll from 7 am to 6 pm. In accordance with the provisions of Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (in short R.P. Act, 1951), displaying any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media or print media and any other means, would be prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for conclusion of poll and till half an hour after the poll in the respective polling areas in connection with aforesaid General elections.
  • He further said that according to Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, under electronic media, Internet, radio and television, which also includes Internet Protocol television, satellite, regional or cable channels, mobile and other media which are of government or private or both are owned by government and private.  In print media which includes newspaper, magazine or periodical magazine, or any other document.
  • It is pertinent to mention here that along with Haryana, the general assembly elections in Maharashtra and bye-elections in 51 Assembly seats in 17 states and bye-elections of one parliamentary constituency of Bihar, one parliamentary constituency of Maharashtra, are scheduled to be held on October 21, 2019.
